The ever-popular Cottage Lantern has its roots in the Shingle Style homes and seaside cottages built along the New England coast during the late 19th Century. Renouncing the highly ornamental Eastlake and Queen Anne architecture, the New England school of architecture preferred simple shapes and details both inside and out.
